More than 70 people turned out on the docks at Arnolds Park for the inaugural "Echoes on West Okoboji" cruise aboard the Queen II, a guided tour of historic sites around the lake led by local historians Mary Dreier and Jonathan Reed. Planning for the cruise began last winter through the Lakes Area Museum Alliance (LAMA) and turnout exceeded organizers' expectations.
Thank you to everyone who came aboard, and to everyone who supports LAMA's preservation and storytelling work. The video can't capture the breakfast buffet, the commemorative take-home booklet, or the gorgeous morning breeze off the lake among friends of LAMA, but it can give you a glimpse of a few of the stories shared aboard the Queen II. Watch below.
KCAU 9 covered the event both before and after it happened. Watch their preview coverage here, or read their recap of the cruise itself.
Explore Okoboji also previewed the event ahead of time, spotlighting some of the lesser-known lakes area history the cruise would explore.
Watch additional footage from the day here from KCAU featuring Mary Dreier.
Thank you to Arnolds Park Amusement Park, Jonathon Reed, and Mary Dreier for spearheading this fundraising event.
Special thanks to Northwest Bank for sponsoring the commemorative booklets.
